My neighbors just brought over a dead Great Horned Owl.   Since there's no evidence of trauma, I'm wondering if it is a West Nile Virus victim, although I'm not aware of WN affecting raptors.  The neighbors say they saw two GHs perching on their roofs last night, calling and screaching at each other.  It sounds to me like two juveniles playing around, but now I wonder...
 
Does anyone have any ideas?  The dead bird is in my freezer and I will call the Division of Wildlife tomorrow.  I hope we don't find the other one has met the same end.  What a gorgeous bird; we are all broken hearted.
