The Conneaut Sandspit was a fun place to be today. My wife Denise, and I, accompanied Jeff Harvey on a beautiful morning trip to The Sandspit. We arrived shortly after 7AM and departed at 10:30AM. The weather was great, and it was a wonderful social event, with birders from near and far, from Columbus to Pittsburgh. License plates in attendance were from Ontario, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, and Ohio. 15 juvenile Bald Eagles could be seen in a scope sweep, a new personal high count! A sampling of species of shorebirds seen: Black-bellied Plover, American Golden-Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, American Avocet, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Stilt Sandpiper. Craig Holt will be posting a total account plus numbers recorded. Bob Lane / Mahoning County
