This southeast Columbus MetroPark had a decent fallout this morning, with lots of small flocks of warblers, pewees, and thrushes scattered along the Beech & Maple Loop trails. Diversity was fair, but numbers were good of the species seen, so it was like getting a clinic on Canadian forest canopy warblers, with a wide span of ages & plumages. Some species were striking by their absence, however, and the forest edge birds were poorly represented. Highlights in 2 hours included:

Hummingbirds - 4-5 along mostly flower-less trails

Flycatchers - almost all E.Wood Pewees, with 14-15, plus a single Phoebe

Vireos - good numbers of Red-eyed (8-10), but nothing else

Thrushes - good #s of Swainson's (12+), but a single Veery was the only other forest thrush

Warblers - 12 species: Nashville (6+), Tennessee (10+), Magnolia (8), Chesnut-sided (5), Cape May (6+), Black-thr.Blue (2males,1female), Blackburnian (10+ ,great plumage variety), Blackpoll (10+), Bay-breasted (5+), Black&White (3), Redstart (14+), Canada (1). Unidentified warblers = 40+. Surprising by their absence: Black-thr.Green, Ovenbird, Wilson's

2+ Indigo Buntings, but no Tanagers or Grosbeaks
