For anyone interested, I've uploaded a picture of the Owl from this morning
to my Flickr photostream:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/noahcomet/6426490791/in/photostream
This is a 100% crop---if you're interested, I can provide a wider view
that'll give a little more context to show you where to look, though once
you're near the bridge and looking north, it's not too hard to find
(assuming it doesn't move; it didn't budge the entire time I was there). I
saw another white speck a bit further off but was unable to confirm whether
it was the second Owl.
To give you some idea of the distance: this picture was taken with a 400mm
lens using a 1.4x teleconvertor on an 18MP camera with a 1.6x crop
factor---so an effective focal length of about 900mm. This roughly
translates to about 18x magnification. A good scope will go a long way!
Best,
Noah
P.S. I didn't see the Gull, but then it was very cold and I was standing
in a driving rain---so I didn't spend a lot of time scanning the skies.
