Greetings-

This morning, between dawn and 11 am, ten birders on a Cleveland Metroparks birding tour witnessed a massive migration of mergansers moving past Huntington Reservation and Rocky River Park, heading west. Totals: 197,500 Red-breasted Mergansers, 600 Common Mergansers, 6 Hooded Mergansers, 20 Common Goldeneye, 1 Northern Pintail, 1 American Wigeon, 1 Ruddy Duck, 30 Bufflehead, 60 Redhead, 400 Lesser Scaup, 10 American Black Ducks, 30 Mallards, 1 Canada Goose. Other species: 60 Common Loons, 120 Horned Grebes, 30 Double-crested Cormorants, 3,000 Bonaparte's Gulls, 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS (new for the Rocky River fall count this year).
