Greetings-

There have been NO reports of the Ashtabula Black-tailed Gull this morning (Friday). There are dozens of birders scouring the area. The sheer size of the harbor, river and industrial grounds, with multiple channels and slips accounts for a maze of areas to search and scan. If you are attempting to search for the gull today (Friday) we highly recommend running a circuit of visiting sites A, C, and B, back and forth. Early morning and late afternoon/evening have offered the best success. The gull prefers to forage at the mouth of the Ashtabula River (site A) in the morning and late afternoon, and rest near the channel/slip at site C, and occasionally rest on top of the industrial buildings easily scanned from site B (Lake Shore Park on east side of the river).

We recommend sharing cell phone numbers with any observers that you meet on location. That way, parties can split up and search different sites. It takes only 5 minutes to get from point B to point A. The weather is exceedingly more pleasant today with lighter winds.

Scopes are very highly recommended if not absolutely necessary.
