Sorry for the late report. After not seeing the Black-tailed Gull on Friday,
Julie Karlson and I drove south and stopped briefly at the recreation area
at the southeast corner of Mosquito Lake in Trumbull County. We scanned the
lake and soon spotted a Red-necked Grebe. It soon swam very close to a
Horned Grebe showing a great comparison of the two. After that we looked
around the state park on the southwest corner of the lake for a little while
where we saw a few shovelers, a few Redheads, and a flock of about 500 coots
all packed very closely together. In a small wooded area near the boat ramp
there was a family of Red-headed Woodpeckers that included both adults and
young.
