The warm weather seems to be encouraging half-hardy wintering birds to pop up around Columbus. Today I had several Chipping Sparrows and a Swamp Sparrow in a scrubland park in south Gahanna. Add this to a Phoebe that was calling near Berliner Park yesterday, plus Fox & Swamp Sparrows there. Not to mention the Chipping Sparrow, Field Sparrow, and Swamp Sparrows at several Dublin sites the day before. This is a time folks should be keeping an eye on their feeders, as wild food stocks are very patchy. The next cold snap might drive quite an assortment of unusual species to local feeders.
