Greetings from the Black Swamp,

I received a call from Roger Emerling this afternoon around 1 p.m. that he had just seen a flock of about 60 Sandhill Cranes with a lone Whooping Crane in among the Sandhills. This was near the south edge of Defiance, Ohio in Defiance County. The birds were about 600-700 feet in the air and were heading straight south.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier, but we were gone and only responded to his message after we got home. Roger knows his birds pretty well and in fact was the person who discovered the first accepted record of a Roseate Spoonbill in Ohio.

Happy hunting, crane watchers!
