One 1st-cycle Franklin's gull was at Clear Fork reservoir, 10
November, ~ 1/4 mile west of the dam, about one hour before sunset. This
Franklin's will probably not be seen during much of the day Friday, Nov.
11, as most of the gulls spend the day at local landfills. This Franklin's
probably came to Clear Fork with a group of Bonaparte's that were migrating
in late afternoon. At Clear Fork reservoir, normally, the gulls return
about two hours before sunset.
I recommend 'scoping thru the gulls from the south side of the
reservoir, along Route 97. About 1/4 mile west of the dam, along rt. 97 is
a pull-off on the reservoir side of the road.
An excellent location to 'scope the gulls at Clear Fork is the Sail
Boat Club, ~ 100 feet west of the rt. 97 pull-off. You may need to park at
the pull-off and walk the short distance to the sail boat club. There is a
cable across the sail boat club driveway, but birders are permitted here.
Walk the short distance to the shelter structure, which sits atop a small
hill affording excellent views of the eastern 1/4 of the reservoir.
Sometimes Franklin's are "one-day wonders" at Clear Fork, other times
they stay for a few days.
The red-necked grebe was still present this a.m. at Clear Fork, near
the dam.
     Good birding,
     John Herman
