Yesterday was hectic with staff going from the Cleveland Pelagic to the
Toledo Naturalist's Associations annual banquet.

Congratulations to TNA and another great year.

The Pelagic had beautiful weather but lake conditions from the late week
blow was not favorable for open lake boating, at least not with everyone
being able to enjoy and keep the great lunch provided by the Holiday crew.

That being said we stayed behind the breakwall which reduced chances of
jaegers and scoters but the volume of grebes and gulls did not disappoint.
The highlight had to be multiple Red-necked grebes that provided nice life
looks for many. There were hundreds of Horned Grebes, a couple of loons,
lots of red-breasted Mergansers, and cormorants. Gulls were in great
abundance. Ring-billed, Bonaparte's, Herring, and a few Greater Black-backs
and one quick look at an adult Glaucous entertained us. The "chummers"
brought birds in close enough to almost touch and for those that chose to
take advantage, a wide array of plumages (really feather coats) and
behaviors. Anybody that watches a Bony won't call them seagulls ever again.
Black-crowned Night Heron, Mockingbird, and Peregrine made the river part of
the trip worth everyone's time to keep on the look out. Several flocks of
pipits were observed crossing the lake.

For those coming west today for the ONWR auto tour check out the Magee
causeway as the Northern Shrike was present again this morning near the
first pull off.
