Paradise Lost is an epic in which, at first it is difficult to tell who is the hero.  During the first part of 
the poem, Milton shows the point of view of Satan.  Satan could be looked at as the hero of the play 
because of this.  However, he is merely the protagonist because he is spoken of first in the poem.  In 
this way, Jesus is the antagonist because the story of Adam and Eve begins to unfold.  My second 
guess was that they were the heroes of the epic, but in class i found out that this was also incorrect.  I 
am still confused on who is the hero of the epic poem
