Several of you were kind enough to ID my gray hawk as a Cooper's. I have been seeing them for years swooping through the trees in several suburbs of SW Cleveland- looking very gray from the back. But the only ones I had a chance to see up close were more rusty- so I was confused. The Great Backyard Bird Count December newsletter today had two gray hawks pictured- and one is the twin of my bird. [log in to unmask] You might want to take a look if you have ever confused Sharp-shinned and Cooper's. I now see that the juveniles are more reddish, which one of you pointed out. Thank you again for the help off-list. This leads me to say that while I have experienced the wrath of some experienced birders over the years on this list, the majority are patient and helpful, especially when replying off-list, which I would suggest for questions like mine. Best to all of you on your CBCs! Kathleen Bradley- Berea
