I work at the airport have not seen the merlins you speak of, but I have
seen them here before. The rough legged hawks are back at Hopkins Airport
and can be seen daily from the 100th Bomb Group restaurant parking lot,
(I've see up to three at a time so far this year.) There are plenty of red
tailed hawks about as well, and I had one report of a snowy owl hanging out
over at the FedEx ramp yesterday on the southeast side of the airport, even
perching on the tail of the aircraft. I have yet to see it, but I've got my
eyes open for any and all owls. The only times I've ever seen short eared
owls were here at the airport as well, so, don't sell the place
short...hunters love this place!
