Greetings once again,

Today we held the Oxbow Lake CBC, and the big discovery of the day turned to be that Defiance, Ohio and the surrounding countryside seem to be directly on the route that large numbers of southbound Sandhill Cranes take on their journey to warmer climes. Over the course of about four hours, our two groups sighted more than 2,000 of these magnificent buglers as they flew over us in wave after wave! This was the first year that these birds have been found on the Oxbow Count, which began in 1985. Next to this more than impressive movement of squawking giants, the Robins, E. Bluebirds, Pine Siskins, and Purple Finch seemed small indeed.

Bird long and prosper,
Doug & Micki Dunakin
