Spent the entire day birding the Wilds and surrounding area. Had a brief
(20 seconds) look at an adult GOLDEN EAGLE flying north of International
Road alongside a female harrier. The eagle looked massive compared to the
harrier. The eagle dipped behind the hill, headed towards the Wilds
parking area. This was around 11:15 am.

Numerous Rough-legged Hawks and Northern Harriers almost everywhere I
went. All color phases of both species.

Also had a gorgeous male GREEN-WINGED TEAL in a pond along International
Road. Other waterfowl in the area were Gadwall, Am. Black Duck,
Ring-necked Duck, Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Mute and Trumpeter Swans,
Canada Goose, Mallard. A flock of 50+ Wild Turkeys in an agricultural area
south of the Wilds property. Numerous Am. Tree Sparrows around and a few
Horned Larks.

I stayed in the area until dark but could not find a single Short-eared
Owl. No shrikes either. Oh well -- excuses for going back soon.

Good birding,

Kyle Carlsen
Washington County
