Greetings Ohio Birders!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Holiday! We've had lots of great sightings in Ohio this Fall, and I'm thrilled that so many of us were able to get good looks at both the Black-tailed and Black-headed Gulls!

November 30th marked the end of the Fall season in terms of the way we keep track of bird records; August 1st to November 30th. A big THANK YOU to those of you who have already submitted your sightings! For those of you who still have sightings to report, please consider submitting your observations of Ohio birds to The Ohio Cardinal. Each issue reports the species account for the state, and relies heavily on field observations from birders. Even if you have reported sightings to the listserv, please provide a list of your most important records to ensure that they are cited in the journal. A convenient form for submitting seasonal observations and additional information is available at: http://www.ohiobirds.org/publications/cardinal/aboutcardinal.php

Please send your Fall 2011 field observations to me by December 25th. Since the academic semester is now over, I will not be in my office at the college until January. Therefore, please do NOT send your sightings to my College of Mount St Joseph address. I won't get them until January 15th. You can send your report to either my e-mail or by postal mail to the Avian Research and Education Institute at the following address:

The Summer 2010 issue is almost complete and should be sent to the printer in December/January. Fall 2010 is also almost complete and should be ready to go in January/February. We are on track to meet our goal of getting caught up in 2012 - thanks to many of you! It has been a pleasure working with you in my new role, and I want you all to know how much I really appreciate your patience and support. I also want to give a very special thank you to Bill Whan and John Herman for their selfless mentoring and critical reviews of each issue. We have a quality journal because of the expertise of our readers, and I thank you all for your input. We make a good team!

Don't forget to send your photographs to Dave Russell ([log in to unmask]) and please consider writing up an article! I know there are some good birding stories out there!

Thanks and happy birding!

Jill
