I was at the dog park around 5pm tonight in lower Grandview Heights on
Goodale Blvd. near Olentangy River Rd. A very large flock, easily
thousands, of birds flew over but were too far east for me to ID (and I
had no binocs with me). I think they were almost right over 315 and
heading north.
I am pretty sure they were waterfowl of some sort judging by the flight
pattern- a slower longer wing beat than a Canada Goose but not as slow as
a heron. I dont believe they were cormorants since I think I saw a
lighter underbelly.
I apologize if the description is vague or if I used the wrong
terminology, this is my first time on the list or communicating with other
birders. I was desperately trying to figure out what I saw tonight since
I think it was pretty amazing. The whole flock easily took 5 minutes to
pass over me and there appeared to be at least 2 main groups of them if
not 3 but it was a steady stream for the entire time. I hope someone else
saw this and was able to identifiy and verify my sighting.
Thanks
Nikki
