The snow & bitter cold can make for interesting birding if you focus on areas with feeders and nearby water. Two areas close to my home that have both are the Woodside Green-Academy Parks of Gahanna and Blendon Woods MetroPark. The former sits along Big Walnut Creek and backs to several yards with feeders, while the latter has Thoreau Pond (which is kept open with bubblers) plus feeders at one pond blind and the Nature Center.

Water: Big Walnut was open (unlike most of the nearby ponds), but had accumulated only lots of Canada Geese and Mallards. Thoreau Pond had better diversity, with the usual Black Ducks, Mallards, and geese, plus 1 Gadwall, 2 Ring-necked Ducks, and 2 Hooded Mergansers

Feeders: The Gahanna feeders had mostly sparrows and juncos, with the expected chickadees, titmice, and woodpeckers. The Blendon feeders were very similar, with the addition of several Tree and Song Sparrows. If the pattern for past snowfalls holds, these feeders should produce unusual birds within a day or so.

Woods: While most of the action was at the feeders, each park had wooded trails that were not bird-less. Woodside Green had Yellow-bellied sapsucker, Brown Creeper, and a small flock of E.Bluebirds. The trail to Thoreau Lake at Blendon had another Bluebird, Hairy Woodpecker, and Yellow-rumped Warbler.
