I guess it's welcome back to winter. If you don't live in Northeast Ohio you probably

had nice weather today. Not so up here at my North Perry yard. It started

snowing again (6" last night) this morning around 8:30 and never stopped

until after 4:00. We now have 25" of snow on the ground. I started

watching the lake this morning, but once the snow started that was it. It

actually started out pretty good with large numbers of gulls and mergs

moving to the west. Throughout the day it stopped snowing enough that you

could make out some of the gulls. I ended up seeing a couple glaucous gulls

and lots of great black-backed gulls.

Since the weather was so poor
for watching the lake I decided to sit watch
the feeders and try a little
photography. My feeders have been very slow
this winter no birds of note.
Around 1:00 I had three COMMON REDPOLLS come
in with a few goldfinches.
They fed for a few minutes before heading out
and not returning. Around
2:30 a female WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL flew in to
the feeder area. It
immediately went into a pine I have by my feeders and
never did go to the
feeders. I was not able to find it again. If either
shows back up tomorrow
I'll spread the word. The way my driveway looks, I
won't be going anywhere
any time soon.
