I also searched unsuccessfully for the reported snowy owl this morning, and
found nothing bigger and whiter than a few Red-tailed Hawks. For those
wanting more details, here is the description that was given along with the
report in the eBird alert:

"I was driving west on 665 when I saw a large white owl fly across the road
and then fly across the farm field on my right. It was about 15 feet above
the field. What really struck me was the size and the color of the
underwings. The wings looked large to me and the underwings looked
completely white. Below where the wings meet the body, the body had dark
baring, so that it looked like a white wing joining a "dirty" body. I never
saw it head on. While I was watching it, I was looking at its right side.
My obsevations were with the naked eye."

Other birds around the landfill include the GLAUCOUS GULL reported
yesterday, Brown-Headed Cowbirds, Common Grackles and a flock of about 15
American Pipits all seen from Zuber Rd. across the highway from the
landfill.

The Merlin at 1375 Dublin Rd. was also present this morning, perched on a
power pole along the road.

Good birding,
Paul Hurtado
