Hi all,

This morning there was 1 Eurasian Widgeon on the second (larger) pond along
the Weapons to Wetlands trail at Fernald Preserve. The gray body,
reddish-brown head, and buffy crown stripe on the face were all clearly
observed for about 20 minutes. The bird was also seen by Gary Stegner and
Jane from Fernald. For those unfamiliar with the area, it is located a
little north west of Cincinnati along Wiley Rd, and is the same preserve
where the Gargany was found in late April last year. The Weapons to
Wetlands Trail is the gravel trail that starts right in front of the
Visitor Center. On our way back to the visitor center, all of the ducks
suddenly flushed, and they (including the Widgeon) landed on a back pond
that is not accessible to the public.

Also present today: 19 Greater White-fronted Geese (previously reported to
cincinnatibirds.com yesterday), 1 Snow Goose (blue), Canada Geese, Black
Duck, American Widgeon, Gadwall, Mallard, Green-winged Teal, Northern
Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Ring-necked Duck, Northern Harrier, American
Kestral, and 160 Sandhill Cranes which apparently roosted there last
night.

Also there has been a Rough-legged Hawk here for the last few weeks, but I
didn't see it today.

Good birding,
Brian Wulker
