The Hoover Reservoir, Ohio  (OHHR) Christmas Bird Count took place 
Saturday, December 17, 2011. The Circle  includes parts of Northern Franklin County 
and Southern Delaware County. There  were 48 observers in the field in 14-16 
parties (non-owling) and 16 Feeder  Watchers. 
One new species was added  to the circle’s Christmas Bird Counts, an 
Ovenbird (species 137) that appeared  at Inniswood Metro gardens in Westerville in 
early December and is still there.  New highs were established for 4 
species. The results were lower than 2010 both  in the numbers of species and the 
number of individuals. The results of the  count are shown below.

164 Hooded Merganser,  436 Ruddy Duck, 10 Bald  Eagle, 2 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 
5 Cooper’s Hawk, 1 Red-shouldered Hawk, 56 Red-tailed Hawk, 3 American  
Kestrel, 4 Wild Turkey, 13 American Coot, 107 Bonaparte's Gull, 1,376  
Ring-billed Gull, 14 Herring Gull, 66 Rock Pigeon, 146 Mourning Dove, 4 Eastern  
Screech Owl, 2 Great Horned Owl, 1 Barred Owl, 8 Belted Kingfisher, 1 Red-headed

Robin,  11 Northern Mockingbird, 2,917 European Starling, 45 Cedar Waxwing, 
13  Yellow-rumped Warbler, 1  Ovenbird, 2 Eastern Towhee, 44 American Tree 
Sparrow, 69 Song Sparrow,  86 White-throated Sparrow, 3  White-crowned 
Sparrow, 211 Dark-eyed Junco, 232 Northern Cardinal, 8 Red-winged  Blackbird, 4 
Common Grackle, 80 House Finch, 156 American Goldfinch,  232 House  Sparrow. 
Count Week Birds: Turkey Vulture, Gadwall, Red-breasted  Merganser, Hermit 
Thrush, and Fox Sparrow. 
Totals:  70  Species, 9,740 Individuals. 
I wish to thank everyone  who joined us in the field or provided a feeder 
report. Without your valuable  participation the Audubon Christmas Bird 
Counts could not take place. May  everyone have a wonderful 2012 filled with good 
birding, good friends and good  health.  
Next year’s Hoover  Reservoir Christmas Bird Count will take place on 
Saturday, December 15,  2012.
