I made quick run through several areas around Battelle-Darby MetroPark this morning. I started at the trails of Indian Ridge, then worked north through Cedar Ridge, the Silo wetlands, and Kuhlwein wetlands. The flock of Tundra Swans remains at the largest of the Silo wetland ponds; I had 24 birds, and most of them had the size & head shape of Tundras. It's possible that there could have been a Trumpeter or 2 among the missing birds (since the flock has reduced #s), but none of these 24 seemed over-sized (Trumpeters seem 20-25% bigger when seen side-by-side). The wetlands had little else in the way of waterfowl, other than some Mallards and a few Coots. Other notables included:

Raptors - no Harriers at the wetlands, but plenty of Red-tails were all around. They seem to be extra conspicuous these days, possibly because they're setting up territories.

Pileated Woodpeckers - a pair were drumming and calling along the SE part of the Terrace trail at Indian Ridge. The woods here may be mature enough now to support them.

Brown Creepers - fair #s, with 2-3 in the riparian woods along Big Darby Creek at both Indian Ridge and Cedar Ridge

Horned Larks - 4-5 singing around each wetland, so they're still common hereabouts.

Tree Sparrows - one was at the feeders at Indian Ridge and Cedar Ridge, while 3-4 were out at the Silo wetlands

Swamp Sparrow - one was still toughing it out at the Kuhlwein wetlands, which were mostly frozen.
