I saw some more definite signs of early Spring today in eastern Mahoning Co.  A great horned owl is back on a nest in Lowellville, for the third time in the last four years at the same spot.  In Poland Twp. were 5 e. bluebirds and 2 n. mockingbirds.  A good variety of waterfowl was at Evans L. and Pine L., with 14 species of ducks found.  Evans L. highlights: gadwalls, Am. black ducks, redhead, ring-necked ducks, lesser scaup, buffleheads, c. goldeneye, hooded mergansers, red-breasted merganser, ruddy ducks, 3 great blue herons, 3 red-tailed hawks, Am. coots, ring-billed gulls, and herring gulls.  Birds at Pine L. included: many Canada geese, a trumpeter swan (Z613 on neck collar), an imm. mute swan, Am. black ducks, mallards, 2 green-winged teal, a hen greater scaup, 37 hooded mergansers, common mergansers, ruddy ducks, 2 red-tailed hawks, Am. coots, killdeer, ring-billed & herring gulls, and n. flicker.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
