Paula Lozano, Bob Fenkelstein and I birded Woodlawn Cemetery i
Hi all,

Paula Lozano, Bob Fenkelstein and I birded Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo this morning - what an incredible day. This wasn't my first trip to see the crossbills, but was certainly the most successful. Highlights:

Common Redpoll - Roughly 70 were feeding in a large sweetgum in section 43. After a while, they all flew across the water to section 13, just north of the closed off bridge. Amongst them was a very good candidate for Hoary but we weren't satisfied with our short looks. Very frosty bird, solid white rump, stubby short bill etc.

White-winged Crossbill - While viewing the redpolls in section 43, we heard and seen a pair fly north and shortly later had a male teed up on a hemlock in section 40. As we walked back east towards the closed off bridge, a flock of 13 flew in and fed in section 36 before continuing across the bridge. We followed and found roughly 45 birds feeding in section 13. It appears there are quite a few smaller flocks flying around, which congregate together at times and split.

At one point the 70 redpolls and 45 crossbills were all feeding in section 13 together.

Besides finches, nothing else of note were seen, not even the resident Merlin. However, a lot of Horned Larks were on the move and it seemed like one was flying over every couple minutes.

Good birding,
