Thursday morning, Bill Kinkead,Jason Simonis and I decided to travel to a
few locations in North Central Ohio. Birding has been rather slow lately
except for some of the early common migrants. We ended the day with 76
species of birds with birds of note listed at the following locations:
Clear Fork Lake
1 Adult Bald Eagle in tree
2 Great Egrets in NW area of Lake
Pleasant Hill Lake
1 Adult Bald Eagle on nest on Pleasant Hill Rd,
Mohican Gorge overlook area
Pine Warbler
Red-shouldered Hawk
Red-breasted Nuthatch
N.E. Knox County
Common Raven--seen at Reed Rd. and Peeler Mill area and a short
time later in a tree on Peeler Mill Rd. a short distance from
Reed Rd. eating carrion. We got good looks at the various
field marks and characteristics (tail, beak and soaring).
Funk Bottoms
1 Adult Bald Eagle on nest and 1 immature soaring
2 Sandhill Cranes in field N. of 95. We saw 6, 2 weeks ago.
Killbuck Marsh
1 Great Egret
Also at different locations were Chipping Sparrows, E. Phoebes, White-
crowned Sparrows 1 Mockingbird, 1 Brown Thrasher and misc. waterfowl.
