Birders (and any of your friends)
The best evening event is happening now. Turn off all of your electronic
equipment. Take your face and go out to a woodcock "dance" site. Take a
chair, maybe something to snack on. Set yourself up so you can look west at
the sunset. You will bear witness to the original "twitter".
Strongsville/Middleburg Hts. border, Main Street parking lot by the ball
diamond and railroad tracks. Set up a chair in the driveway of the electric
substation across from the parking lot. At least 4 woodcock were out last
evening (3/13) and several others were flying in . possibly the ladies? You
could see them clearly as they took off against the evening sky, circled and
chirped. I was entertained until it got dark (yes there were several
drivers passing by that may have thought I was nuts . who cares).
Other birds last evening:
Killdeer
Wood duck
American Robin
Lots of Common Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds heading north
Song Sparrow
