There appears to have been an incursion of these owls into Columbus over the past month. I heard 2 calling in different areas of Gahanna during a Frog survey last night (1 in Gahanna Woods, 1 near Rocky Fork Country Club), in areas where I had seen individual birds last month. I also had a big adult sitting on a nest along the Blacklick Bikepath near Brice Road this morning, in a site where Great Horneds had bred several years ago. Add in the bird that Dave Slager found near Cruiser Pond, plus a bird that was calling in Jefferson Township on and off for 2 months (fide Bob McNulty), and they seem to be oozing out of every crevice in eastern Franklin County. They've not been this common in the last 5-6 years. Seems like they just wanted to wait until the OBBA2 was finished!
