A gorgeous male Eurasian Wigeon was at the north end of Evans Lake today. We arrived at the lake at about 11:30AM, and departed at about 12:15PM. The celebrity visitor was still present when we left, hanging out with a male American Wigeon. It seems that the large rafts of waterfowl have moved on, but there was still some nice variety. Some of the highlights were: Canvasback, Bufflehead, Northern Pintail, Ruddy Duck, Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Lesser Scaup, and Ring-necked Duck. Evans Lake is located in southeastern Mahoning County. Best viewing is from the east side of the lake, from Springfield Road (CR161), enter The Villas At Evans Lake, go to the cul-de-sac at the end of the road, and scan the lake straight out. Viewing can also be achieved on the west side of the lake, from the end of Calla Road (CR30), enter at Heron Bay off of SR164. Scan the lake looking diagonally to the left. This is the same location that the Western Grebe was at last year. A scope is needed. Bob and Denise Lane / Damascus~Mahoning County
