Hey all -

I was delighted to find a decent variety of waterbirds at the Lorain Impoundment, today.  I didn't have high hopes for Lorain this year, but spring rains have filled the holes dug last year by the Port Authority, and they have been quickly colonized by migrant waterfowl.  The highlight was a concentration of 55 NORTHERN SHOVELERS - quite a high count for the Calendar area, but there were also lesser numbers of Redhead, Bufflehead, scaup, and both teal.  There were a couple hundred gulls sitting on the dirt mounds within the impoundment, including 20 Bonaparte's.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some migrant shorebird activity here again, this year - but time and Port Authority intervention will tell.

The now-depleted woodlot held an early Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
