There was a pretty good variety of birds in eastern Mahoning Co. yesterday 3/25.  In my Poland Twp. yard were golden-crowned kinglet and purple finch.  In Lowellville, the great horned owl continues on it's nest.  On and around Evans L. were: lesser scaup, bufflehead, red-breasted mergansers, 50 ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebes, horned grebe, double-crested cormorant, great blue herons, osprey (at nest), bald eagle, n. harrier, red-tailed hawk (on nest), 80 Am. coots, killdeer, belted kingfisher, n. flicker, e. phoebe, tree swallow, Carolina wren, e. bluebirds, e. towhee, and song sparrows.  Pine L. was rather dull, with red-breasted mergansers, pied-billed grebe, 14 double-crested cormorants, n. flicker, and 55 tree swallows.  Lastly, along Calla Rd. in Beaver Twp. were a singing horned lark and 2 n. mockingbirds.  The number and variety of bushes and trees in full bloom around here is simply amazing considering it's only March.  Craig Holt,
 Lowellville
