A walk at dusk along my rural road in the southwest corner of Athens County
yielded a nice variety of birds this Monday evening.  I heard two separate
Brown Thrashers singing, as well as a Louisiana Waterthrush and a Winter
Wren.  Robins and Northern Cardinals were abundant, as were Eastern Towhees,
who were very busy scratching in the brush, "chewinking" away, and a few
males even gave chase to each other, working to establish territories.  A
decent population of White-throated Sparrows still remains, with many
calling loudly from their usual post in "their" pocket along the road.  Two
Wood Ducks were flushed from the creek.  Interestingly, the phoebes and
bluebirds were notably quiet this evening.

The best treat of the evening, though, was when I peeked into our only
Bluebird box that has a nest in it, and I found 3 perfect blue eggs inside.
 Hopefully the freeze this evening will not have an ill effect on them.
