Hi all,

Southerly winds are creating the first significant push of migrant hawks today along the western shore of Lake Erie - decent numbers of Turkey Vultures, American Kestrels, Red-tailed, Red-shouldered, and Cooper's Hawks are being reported by Sherrie Duris near Maumee Bay and several staff members from the parking lot at Black Swamp Bird Observatory. I just glanced outside and they are still moving.

The weather calls for another warm day tomorrow with stronger SSW winds so it might be worthwhile to devote an hour or two and watch the skies.

If you're in the area and have the chance to go out this afternoon or tomorrow, it's a great opportunity to witness these early migrants. The hawk tower at Magee Marsh is a good vantage point, as well as the parking lot at the bird observatory.
Here's a map showing these places: http://www.bsbo.org/birding/pdf/Magee_Marsh_Map.pdf

The big hill at Maumee Bay State Park is also a good vantage point, and is indicated on the map here: http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Portals/2/parkmaps/maumeebayparkmap.pdf

Good Birding!
