We did the full loop around Guilford Lake today, Saturday, from 11AM to 12:30PM. 38 species of birds were recorded, including 17 species of waterfowl. Highlights and how many were: Common Goldeneye~2 males (easily seen at the state park campground), Canvasback~13, Bufflehead~15, Northern Shoveler~12, Ring-necked Duck~19, Gadwall~12, Lesser Scaup14, Ruddy Duck~16, American Wigeon~1 pair, Red-breasted Merganser~120, Hooded Merganser~105, Mute Swan~2, American Coot~8, Horned Grebe~9, Pied-billed Grebe~5, Bald Eagle~2 adults, Herring Gull~34, and Turkey Vulture~4. To see all the waterfowl you must completely circle the lake, and a scope is necessary. Guilford Lake State Park is east of SR9 and north of SR172, four miles west of the town of Lisbon.
