headed out with the boys today to seewhat we could see started @ Ashtabula (8:00) to get Tom his lifer Snowy Owl - success!the bird was located by Haans from thebridge right of the canal (at the end) justinside a rail, could see and ID with binos,but could enjoy it with a scope!there was a large concentration of gulls way out in the middle back of the yard (maybe200+) but since all 4 of us had the BTGullfor 2012, we decided to move on.quick check @ the park pavillion yielded onlya dozen-ish gulls on the roofs of the indybuildings - on to Conneaut Conneaut 8:45happy to see that the chain across the roadby the boat launch was open!!in the canal along the road we encounteredAmerican Coots - 30-ishMallards - dozenishNorthern Shovelers - 2 (great views close in the sun!)Pied-billed Grebe - 1     OUT TO THE SPIT (for first time this year!)     note - i have 4-wheel drive, not advised for other vehiclesfrom the beach on out to the end of the spit we saw - Common Mergansers - 10RBMergs - 5Buffleheads - 6Common Goldeneyes - 5Common Loon - 1Breat Black-backed Gull - 2Ring-billed Gull - 100-ishHerring Gull - <5Turkey Vultures - 3Rock PigeonsSong SparrowsRWBbirdsGracklesGBHeronsCanadas we then decided to head to Amish Country to check out some hawkswe drove thru Jefferson and Middlefield and sawAmerican Kestrels - 2 (hunting a hayfield - hovering was way cool!)Red-tailed Hawks - 10-ish on the driveRough-legged Hawks - 2 (1 dark, 1 light on Hayes Rd)Killdeers - dozensRWBbirds - we saw a flock of app 1000 fly over us!Crows were everywhere!Gulls - there were surprising numbers chilling in fieldsbluebirds - a fewEastern Meadowlarks - FOY Song Sparrows missing were Horned Larks and Cowbirds(1 i cared about ...........) good day!! buster
