First thing this morning Emil & I checked several Lorain Co.
Hey all -

First thing this morning Emil & I checked several Lorain Co. locales, finding little of interest, before heading a bit west.  On the way to Magee, I pulled off along US-250 to check a gull flock and the first bird I laid eyes on was a young ICELAND GULL, right next to the road!  We've had some success finding Lesser Black-backeds in agricultural fields but this was our first white-winger.  This flock also included four ad. Lesser Black-backed Gulls.

The photos of the Iceland can be found at N/NW: http://northnw.wordpress.com/

On to the hawk tower at Magee, where the weather was gorgeous and the hawk flight at least mildly entertaining for the date:

Turkey Vulture  9
Northern Harrier  2
Sharp-shinned Hawk  2
Cooper's Hawk  1
Red-shouldered Hawk  39
Red-tailed Hawk  9

Eastern Phoebe  2
Lapland Longspur  45

Ethan Kistler and others joined for the hawk flight.  Lots of pellets & whitewash under a pine near the hawk tower...looks like a Long-eared Owl spent some time here.

Good birding -
