Hi all,

Shortly after sending out the Ohio Statewide RBA, I received the following email on a Cinnamon Teal in Harrison County (see below). Is anyone nearby and able to check it out?

Subject: Cinnamon Teal in Harrison County

Hi Ethan,

My name is Russ Ruffing. I am the compiler of the Annual Birders' List Report here in Maryland...I got an interesting call from my older brother today about a drake Cinnamon Teal in Harrison County that I'd like to pass along. My brother (Dan) is not an avid birder but he is a waterfowl hunter and knows his ducks. On a business trip yesterday with his wife, they stopped to glass a series of ponds that are bounded by a triangle formed by Route 22, Route 151, and Township Highway 177 in Harrison County. My brother reported 11 species of waterfowl present on the pond, includingGreen winged Teal, Gadwalls, Pintails, Bufflehead, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Hooded Mergs, Red breasted Mergs, Ringed Neck Ducks, Canada Geese and a drake CINAMMON TEAL! They both noted the overall dark cinnamon color of the body, the red eye, dark bill, and blue feathering on the wing. The bird was in a group of 3 Green-winged Teal.

I was highly skeptical of his report at first because I note that Cinnamon's haven't been reported on ebird for Ohio in the last 10 years or so. But he swears that is what he saw and his wife also confirms this. I thought you would like to know and perhaps distribute this report on the Ohio listserve, as I don't have access to it. I am going to try to have him report his sighting on ebird as well.

thanks!
