Hi birders: I and a friend spent three hours this morning at Shreve
fishpond (across from Wright Marsh on hwy 226), at Wright Marsh, and at two
other locations in the Killbuck Wildlife area. Shorebirds were good at the
fishpond and several other species of note were seen in the Killbuck area.
Best sightings in each were:
Shreve Fishpond: Green-winged teal (pair), Hooded merganser (pair),
killdeer (5), greater yellowlegs (3), lesser yellowlegs (3), pectoral
sandpiper (50+), dunlin (1), Wilson's snipe (2), E. meadowlark (1).
Wright Marsh: Pied-billed grebe (4-5), Great egret (3), Mute swan (1),
Gadwall (3), Blue-winged teal (5-6), Am. widgeon (10-15), Shoveler (10-15),
Wood duck (8-10), Ring-necked duck (100s), Bufflehead (6-8), Coot (50+),
Bonaparte's gull (1), Ring-billed gull (1), Kingfisher (1), Swamp sparrow
(5-6).
Killbuck Marsh: Bald eagle (2, 1 on nest), Sandhill crane (4 flying
overhead), Mockingbird (1), Tree swallows (25+).
Total species for the morning: 45
