Greenlawn is great for birding from the car when it is chilly. Not much activity, but I did see Hermit Thrush (4), Northern Mockingbird (2), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2), Yellow-rumped Warbler (7-8), Eastern Phoebe (on nest), Canada Goose (with 3 goslings), Black-and-White Warbler (1), and Chipping Sparrow (lots).
At Greenlawn dam I had FOS Double-crested Cormorant, Chimney Swift, Belted Kingfisher, and lots of Swallows (Barn, Tree, and Northern Rough-Winged).
Yesterday afternoon, at Blendon Woods Metropark, I saw not one of the thirteen warblers that had been reported that morning (I walked the Lake Trail and the whole Goldenrod Trail). I did get a FOS Pied-billed Grebe, Gray Catbird and White-crowned Sparrow at the lake, and FOS Indigo Bunting behind the Visitor's Center. A Blue-gray Gnatcatcher flew within two yards and gave me a long, close look, and I saw several beautiful Eastern Bluebirds and a singing Eastern Towhee. The resident Wild Turkey flock was close to the Lake Trail path: two huge males with their tails spread plus 3-4 females.
Last night at our house, we were awakened by a very strange noise that kept repeating itself. I finally figured out it must be an owl. When I played some tapes this morning, I found it was a Barred Owl. I looked for it today in the pine trees but couldn't find it. I have my spotlight charged and at the ready in case it returns tonight!
