Hi Everyone,

Based upon my observation of the Say's Phoebe Saturday and subsequent
behavior I offer the following suggestions for observation:

The bird appears shy. After Jerry and Suzanne initially found the bird it
disappeared when larger groups of people showed up. It re appeared when
there were just 3 of us in the dunes (we were along the cottonwoods) and
disappeared again when that number increased to 10, and people started
trying to get closer looks by venturing out on the paths. When there were
just 3 of us it came as close as the dunes pond, but once the number
doubled it did not come that close, favoring the areas farthest from us.
As people moved to get pictures the bird moved more frequently.

I kind of figured the bird would be re found today because there are not
many people around. Yesterday, with lots of people out beating the dunes,
it stayed hidden.

If you try for this bird my suggestion is to take a lawn chair and be
patient. Park yourself along the cottonwoods and wait for the bird to
show. Don't go looking for it as it may spook again. It may eventually
become habituated to people, but based upon Saturday's and Sunday's
behavior it seems to not like being looked at.

Good luck
