At the risk of setting myself up for criticism, I thought it important to
post the sighting of what I believe to be a snow goose near my home in
western Holmes County. I even have pictures - not the greatest mind you,
but documentation nonetheless.

I located the bird at a small farm pond on CR 52 about 3/4 of a mile south
of Nashville. The pond is close to the road and one that I pass twice a
day, five days a week as I travel to and from work. Usually, all I ever see
are a few mallards, Canadian geese and the occasional heron. Today,
however, I noticed a white, goose-sized bird and had to slam on the breaks.
Luckily, I had my binoculars handy and spent a few moments picking out
details about the bird before moving on as I was at a bend in the road and
it wasn't a safe place to stop for long.

I noticed some rust coloring on the head and a rear view of the bird
afforded me the opportunity to see a bit of black on the primary feathers.
So, off I raced the last 1 1/2 miles to my home, grabbed my 6MB camera and
raced back to the pond. Of course, as luck would have it, the geese moved
to the other side of the pond, further away from the road. I took several
photos which you'll find via the link below. The last 2 are cropped, and,
although not crisp pictures, you can see some evidence of black primaries
and rust coloring on the head. I'm not sure what else it would be as I've
never seen any domestic waterfowl at this location.

So, here is the link.

It should be accessible to anyone. If not, let me know and I'd be happy to
share the pictures to get a positive ID. This would be a life bird for me,
by the way, so a positive ID is important.

Thanks and happy birding!
