Last evening, Wednesday, from 6PM to 7PM, I walked the loop trail at The Kroger Wetlands. It was very productive, with 27 bird species being recorded. The highlight was 2 Solitary Sandpipers, my first of the year. The other species seen were: Mallard, Chimney Swift, Belted Kingfisher, Northern Flicker, Eastern Phoebe, Tree Swallow, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Blue Jay, American Crow, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, House Wren, Carolina Wren, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Wood Thrush, American Robin, Northern Mockingbird, Brown Thrasher, European Starling, Northern Cardinal, Rufous-sided Towhee, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, Common Grackle, and American Goldfinch. Not bad for a short spring walk with the sounds of I-77 in the background. The Kroger Wetlands parking lot and trailhead, is located just northwest of the intersection of I-77 and SR7, on the east side of the city of Marietta, and on the east side of Acme Street, behind the Kroger Plaza.
