This past Thursday a birder described and took very distant and blurry photos of a Longpur species that looks wholesomely black below, has a small but rich reddish-chestnut nape patch and a pale yellowish face. The description of the bird overall and the photos semi-support o molting male Chestnut-collared Longspur. The bird was loosely associating with 150 Lapland Longspurs on Howard Road just west of Metzger Marsh. I have no further details beyond a solid description and poor but intriguing photos.
