Well, the waterfowl that had been lingering at this little park just south of Chardon are thinning out. Over the past couple of weeks, the 5 lesser scaup went to 3, then none (apparently) as of this morning. The (at its peak) 11 bufflehead are down to 3 females. The adult common loon that spent a good bit of the first half of April moved on over a week ago to be replaced a few days ago by an immature. The small inner-trail wetland has featured yellowlegs and snipe this past week. At least 1 pied-billed grebe is hanging around as is a belted kingfisher.

This morning, I saw a pair of spotted sandpipers; 3 Caspian terns dropped by briefly circling and hovering for fish. I got the best look ever at a blue-headed vireo that sat still for over 5 minutes at eye level. This extended viewing gave me the opportunity to reinforce the "Sit/Stay" command with my incorrigible yellow lab Eddie.
