Hello Ohio Birders,

As an addition to the thread about perspective, I've found the following quote interesting:

"As this Woodpecker seems not to possess the faculty of adapting itself to the new conditions created by civilization, it is quite possible that it will not long survive the passing of our primeval forests." - T. Gilbert Pearson, in "Birds of America," 1917.

He is writing about the Pileated, not the Ivory-billed.

(I think about this whenever I hear about a pair of these birds helping themselves to the carpenter ants underneath someone's cabin siding in the Hocking Hills.)

Good birding to all,

Dave Horn
Columbus
