Competent Birder(s) needed to conduct Breeding Bird Surveys on the Ironton Ranger District of the Wayne National Forest under a service contract between 20 May and 20 June 2012.

These points (69) are randomly dispersed in both wooded and open conditions in 2 distinct project areas, as follows (number of survey points in parantheses):

  * Pine Creek area (42) in Scioto County, Vernon Twp (2) and Bloom Twp (23) and Lawrence County, Decatur Twp (12) and Washington Twp (6).
  * Buckeye area (25) in Lawrence County, Symmes Twp (14), Aid Twp (9), Elizabeth Twp (1), and Decatur Twp (2).
Each point will be surveyed once. Datasheets, maps, and GPS points will be provided as part of service contract. All other equipment provided by contractor.

Point counts will be 10 minutes in duration with 3 time periods and 3 distance bands. Counts will be conducted from sunrise to no later than 11:00 AM. Surveyor(s) must have their own transportation, be capable of identifying all southeast Ohio birds by their songs/calls, able to navigate off-road using topo maps and GPS, and able to traverse rugged, off-trail terrain on foot in all types of weather conditions. Also desirable (but not required) are herpetofauna identification skills to check coverboards at 42 Pine Creek points concurrently with bird surveys.
