Hello All... Sorry for this late report, based on yesterday's sightings, but these birds are most likely still in these locations. Based on earlier, recent reports to Ohio Birds, we headed to Dalton, OH which is located about 13 miles E of Wooster, on SR 30. At the East edge of Dalton, turn North on West Lebanon Rd and in a short distance there is a parking area on the left (W) side of the road, adjacent to a rails-to trails bike/walking trail. Walk E on this trail for about 1/4 mile to a bridge, and then within 100 yards or so beyond you will find mile-marker 8.5. To the N, in an island of trees, is where a Western Meadowlark was found/reported last Saturday. It wasn't singing much yesterday morning, but at around noon we heard it singing a bit further to the East, between mm 8.5 and where a wire fence begins, along the N side of the bike path/trail. The fields to the N include one with last year's corn stubble and with a grassy strip beyond. Later,
the bird was heard singing its' distinctive song, but further to the East and North. Doreene had also remember an earlier post by Margaret Bowman about a pair of EUCO Doves behind the post office in the little town of Kidron, so we stopped there and found one of them within about 10 minutes. Kidron Road is about 3 miles W of Dalton, and you will need to turn South. The doves are reportedly nesting in a now flowering pear? tree to the left, and just beyond a white privacy fence at the E end of the parking area, behind the post office. We did not locate the nest, however. Also, if you have the time and have never been there, a stop at Lehman's Hardware, almost directly across from the post office, is highly recommended as it much, much more than just a hardware store!! A later stop at the Funk WA did not turn up anything unusual. The road to Funk WA is located about 10 miles W of Wooster, just before reaching the Wayne Co line. Turn S on CR 16 (
also Funk Road). When you reach SR 95 (about 3 miles S of SR30), turn left and look for the WA signs. Turn right onto a stone/gravel road and drive to the parking lot at the end where you will see the observation deck and a trail beyond, leading into the wetlands area. Boots may be required after heavy Spring rains, but none were required yesterday.

Good Birding,
Dan
