When we moved to our house (which is 170 years old this year) there were woods behind the house, and a section of old pasture.
Everyday I walked in a circular route to Rt 11 and back. Counting 8 Ovenbird territories who nested in Oak, Hickory, Beech woods.
Many years ago a section of the old woods was logged, then another area had a road and new houses built. The logging
caused a drop in Ovenbird population and the houses which "fragmented" the remaining woods, brought the population to zero.
There are Ovenbirds in areas around Mosquito Lake,,,of older woodlands. Keeping the Watch
