Hey folks,
Tonight is the FINAL day to bid (sponsor) a species in the forthcoming Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II
book. Species already SOLD (i.e. someone has already bid the max amount) include Green Heron,
Bald Eagle, Eastern Whip-poor-will, Red-headed Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, Eastern Bluebird, and
Cerulean Warbler.
Here's the link to bid: http://ohiobirds.org/obba2/wordpress/?page_id=72

In case you don't know about this statewide project, sponsoring a species in the OBBA II book is
a great way to lend your support to Ohio's birds, as well as contribute to getting this important
book published. The Atlas, based on field work conducted from 2006 to 2011, will be the most
comprehensive account of Ohio breeding birds to date. The OBBA II 'tome' will be a great resource,
illustrated with photographs and maps, for any and all birders interested in Ohio's avifauna.
Bidding on a species in the book supports Ohio's birds, PLUS, you can get your name, the name of
your group or bird club, or the name of a loved one "in memoriam", in the publication!

So, if YOU have a spark bird or a favorite species, won't you please, please, please consider
making a "bid on a bird" tonight before midnight?
Funds from this "species sponsorship" program will help offset the cost of printing the book,
thereby making the OBBA II book affordable to more people!

The OBBA II website says: "This species sponsorship program was created to help generate
funds to lower the price of the published book for the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II (OBBA II). Field
work for OBBA II was conducted from 2006 through 2011. This effort relied on the participation of
bird enthusiasts to document the current distribution of breeding birds in Ohio. The Atlas provided
an opportunity for anyone to contribute records of breeding birds from anywhere in Ohio between
2006 and 2011. This information is valuable and necessary to more effectively conserve bird
populations. You can get more information on OBBA II by visiting our main website here:
http://www.ohiobirds.org/obba2/

The published Atlas will provide the most comprehensive account of Ohio breeding birds to date,
and will be thoroughly illustrated with full color maps and photographs. State atlases like Ohio’s
can be fairly sizeable and expensive books, and thus our goal is to generate funds through a
variety of sources (businesses, conservation organizations, and individuals) to lower printing and
purchasing costs. We hope to make this important reference available and affordable to as many
birders, nature enthusiasts, and Ohioans as possible (expected publication: 2013)."
